UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO ACADEMIC TOWER
TORONTO, ONTARIO
Client: University of Toronto
Architect and Rendering Credits: MJMA | Patkau Architects
Academic Tower, a landmark building at the University of Toronto, will be Canada’s tallest academic timber building. The building is an expansion to the University of Toronto Campus, located at the St. George Campus and will be connected to the Munk School Observatory building and the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport. Mass timber provides a high degree of fire-resistance for the structure and naturally absorbs carbon.
The building has been supported by the Government of Canada’s Green Construction through Wood program. CHM participated on the project in the role of Fire Engineering and developed the approved Alternative Solution in support of the exposed mass timber structure.
