Tallwood 1 is a twelve-storey mixed-use building featuring ground floor retail with residential units on all levels above. The building was the first structure to be constructed under the British Columbia Building Code’s (BCBC) new Encapsulated Mass Timber Construction (EMTC) provisions. Mass timber construction is a typology that drastically reduces a building’s embodied carbon.
CHM provided a full scope of Code consulting services for the building, inclusive of multiple Alternative Solutions, including in support of the exposed mass timber structure.
